During our color mixing lesson, I wanted to get an understanding of what students already knew about colors, mixing colors, and color theory as a whole. So before the lesson started, students completed a pre-test to gauge their understanding of these topics. The pre-test was 7 questions long and gauged understanding of the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, color mixing, black and white as colors, and color schemes.

This is the 90 pt rubric for the Art Movement Timeline. It explains what the students will be making, the major steps of the unit, and breaks down points into creativity, craftsmanship, productivity, and influence from the specific movement that the student is assigned.

For the sensory mural project, I wanted my older students to design their tiles before starting, so I created sketch sheet for them to design, draw, and color on the first day of the unit.

My elementary students are primarily graded on participation and effort they exhibit in class. This is the K-6 participation rubric that I use for their weekly grades.
PAL 1: HOIC Student Art Gallery at Julian Hall
On February 27, 2026, a group my of Advanced and AP Art students attended the HOIC conference on campus at Illinois State University. I attended this conference with them as a volunteer chaperone. We were able to view the work of the artists the jurors selected to be displayed in the Student Art Gallery. I also helped to set up this exhibition the weekend before with my cooperating teacher. It was great experience for me to know what goes into putting together an art exhibition, especially when you have to collaborate with a large group of people. It was also so incredible for my students to see their own work in a gallery for others and get a taste of what that is like.
These images are of three of my students whose work was selected for the exhibition.
PAL 2: Acceptance into University Galleries’ 2026 Student Annual
University Galleries in Uptown Normal, IL showcases new artwork made be ISU students every year since 1974. Students’ work is reviewed by professionals outside of the University and a portion are selected to be shown at the Galleries for a period of time.
This year, I submitted a ceramic piece that was made during my sophomore year of college, titled In the Turning, that comments on the complex feelings surrounding new relationships as a young woman in college.
On April 8th, I attended the Student Annual opening and was able to see my piece displayed in the Galleries. It will be on display until May 4, 2026.
